“The Nanotechnology Center for composites"("NCC") presented a prototype of a charging cover made of polymer composites at Expo 1520”, the IV International Salon of Equipment and Technology held in Moscow from the 11th to 14th of September.

The sample is an integral part of the exhibition of the “Joint Wagon Company” (OVK). The cover is especially designed for the following models of hopper cars: 19-9835, 19-9835-01, 19-9835-02, 19-9835-03, 19-9870 and 19-9870-01 which are produced by "Tikhvinsky wagon plant» (TVSZ). The product will be produced in accordance with the technology, which is new to Russia. Mass production of charging covers is planned to be launched at the end of 2014.

"A prerequisite to the development was the desire of our partners from the “Joint Wagon Company" to improve the charging cover design in such a way as to eliminate their replacement while in operation due to corrosion, and simultaneously reduce the labor input while loading and unloading works”, said Aleksey Rannev, the project Director of the "NCC" company.

"OVK aims at continuous improvement the car designs. Application of composite materials is one of the perspective directions that lead us towards that goal. A charging cover is the first step that we have taken together with the "NCC", and we look forward to continuing our cooperation”, underlined Dmitry Bovykin, the General Director Deputy, the Executive Director of OVK.

The combination of the advantages of composite materials and technologies for manufacturing parts made of them, as well as the design features of the product made it possible to reduce twofold the weight of the cover, to provide resistance to aggressive environment and compatibility with all types of loads.
